Connie Mae (Stoeffler) Esser, age 60, of Guttenberg, IA, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals with her family by her side. She was born the daughter of Donald and Ivanelle (Gassman) Stoeffler on December 31, 1948 in Guttenberg.
Connie graduated from St. Mary’s High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Mt. Mercy College. On May 28, 1973 she was united in marriage with Jerome “Matt” Esser at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. They were later blessed with one son Terry. Connie was a merchant store owner and the operator of Connie’s Apparel for over 35 years. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, St. Anne’s Society; Civic and Commerce club as well as an officer of the board of directors. Connie taught at St. Mary’s School before she was married. She was a lector at church and also played the organ. Connie enjoyed bowling, knitting, sewing and working with crafts.
Connie will be remembered by her husband Jerome "Matt" Esser; one son, Terry Esser of Marion, IA; two sisters, Suzette (Gerald) Bower and Ivy (Brian) Heins both of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her father Donald and three brothers in infancy.
