John Alvin Bittner was born the son of John D. and Ella (Heins) Bittner, September 17, 1930, near Guttenberg. He died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at his home following a short illness.
John received his education locally and farmed with his family for many years. On October 24, 1964, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Fortmann at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and watching westerns.
Those left to cherish his memory, his wife Dorothy; two daughters, Lisa (Robert) Kies of Colesburg and Angela (Nick) Ryan of Dubuque; four sons, Jeffrey (Karen Moose) Bittner of Garnavillo, David Bittner of Garnavillo, Daniel (Jessica) Bittner of Guttenberg, and Jason (Lynette Pritchard) Bittner of Guttenberg; one sister, Irene Becker of Guttenberg; five grandchildren: Jessica, Danielle, Travis, Justin, Caleb and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ida Miller and one brother, Lyle Bittner.
