Ray Clyde Koth of Garnavillo passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center on September 23, 2009 having reached the age of 92 years.
Ray Clyde, son of Vern and Tresa (Ames) Koth was born on April 22, 1917 on the family farm near Monona, Iowa. On August 17, 1941 he was united in marriage with Kathryn Schroeder at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Ray and Kathryn worked on a dairy farm near Central City, Iowa for 2 ½ years and returned to Clayton County where they farmed north of Garnavillo until their retirement in 1979. While living in town, Ray enjoyed vegetable gardening, building furniture for his children and helping Kathryn with her many projects.
A faithful member of St. Paul, he was involved with Church Council, Brotherhood, Sunday School and Bible School. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, and also served for twenty years on the Care Review Committee for the Guttenberg Care Center. He was a good farmer and a kind and gentle man.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Nancy and John Haese of Onalaska, WI; his son, Chet and Rita Koth of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Matt Haese, Joanna and Toby Thomack, Adam and Nicole Koth, and Alexander Koth; one brother, Foster and Hildegard Koth of Monona; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Schroeder; and a sister-in-law, Leona Schroeder, as well as nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his daughter, Neala; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Margie Olson Andersen as well as his parents.
