Burnell F. Borcherding was born the son of Delbert and Viola (Kregel) Borcherding, December 21, 1940, on the family farm near Garber. He died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at his home in Garnavillo following a sudden illness.
Burnell graduated from the Guttenberg High School and was employed by DHIA, as a milk tester for many years. He enjoyed fishing with buddies, gardening, and playing cards.
On August 16, 1969, he was united in marriage with Helen Davies at First Congregational Church in McGregor, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife Helen; two daughters, Melissa Borcherding of Garnavillo and Mariann (Shawn) Gilpin of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Michael Borcherding of Garnavillo and Mark (Loretta) Borcherding of Elgin; two sisters, Darlene (Lyle) Glawe of Garnavillo and Janet (Jim) Solomon of Guttenberg; two brothers, Harvey (Eldoris) Borcherding of Garnavillo and Dennis Borcherding of Guttenberg; four grandchildren, Taylor Borcherding, Cole Borcherding, Lucas Gilpin, and Ava Gilpin; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
