Robert W. Niehaus, age 82, of Garnavillo, IA, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center. He was born the son of Ernst and Iowa (Havill) Niehaus on November 14, 1926 on the home farm near Guttenberg.
Robert graduated from the Guttenberg High School in 1944, and received one year of education from Iowa State University. Robert served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. On September 19, 1949 he was united in marriage with Patricia Auer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo Iowa. Together they farmed for several years north of Garnavillo and were blessed with 4 children. For many years he served as Vice President for Farm Bureau and Clayton County Farm Services. He also was on the board of directors for both agencies. Robert’s main love was growing corn but he also made time for reading and working in his shop.
Robert’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife Patricia Niehaus of Garnavillo; one daughter, Dr. Cheryl (Bill) Northey of Watsonville CA; three sons, Daniel (Janice) Niehaus of Garnavillo, Dr. Michael (Julie) Niehaus of Burlington, IA and Mark (Kelly Hefel) Niehaus of Elkader; seven grandchildren; one brother, Virgil (Christina) Niehaus of Guttenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
