Dorothy Ann Carlson, age 77, of Guttenberg, formerly of Cedar Rapids IA, died Sunday, April 13, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center after a seven year battle with PSP. She was born the daughter of James and Clara (Housh) Magirl on August 13, 1931 in Monti Iowa.
Dorothy graduated from the high school in Stanley Iowa. She worked for many businesses in Cedar Rapids over the years as a bookkeeper. She was united in marriage with Francis Carlson on April 25, 1981 in Cedar Rapids. After their retirement, Francis and Dorothy moved to Guttenberg. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and bingo with the residents at the Guttenberg Care Center and she also played bingo weekly at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. She enjoyed spending time with Francis fishing on the Mississippi and taking the occasional trip to the casino.
Dorothy’s memory will be forever cherished by her husband Francis Carlson of Guttenberg; one daughter, Deborah (Devin) Emrich and one son, Donald (Trish) Reynolds both of Cedar Rapids, IA
two step-daughters, Jodee (Lyle) Manning and Deann Carlson both of Cedar Rapids; three step-sons,
Jeff (Sharon Regal) Carlson of Atkins, Scott and Todd Carson both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; three sisters, Mary Callahan of Cedar Rapids, Deloras Cowles of Cresco IA and
Florence Thompson of Las Vegas NV.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Irene Anderson and one brother Bernard Magirl.
