Lawrence L. Guyer, 93, of Garnavillo, IA, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, in the Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, IA. Services will be 11:30 am Thursday with friends invited to visit with the family from 9:30-11:30 am preceding the funeral in the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, IA., with Mr. Joel Portman officiating. Burial will be in the Garnavillo City Cemetery.
Lawrence is survived by his sister, Eleanor Scheffert of Marquette, IA; six children and their spouses: Janet (Joel) Portman, of Cedar Rapids, IA; Roger (Sue) Guyer, of Garnavillo, IA; Lorna (Robert) Schwartz, of Clarksville, IA; Wayne (Lynn) Guyer, of Tarrytown, Georgia; Eunice (Randy) Sluiter, of Parkersburg, IA; and Lynn (Lesa) Guyer, of Colesburg, IA; thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well as other relatives of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents,Malcom & Mae (Fritz) Guyer, an infant daughter, and his wife, Verda Mae.
Lawrence was born June 23, 1915 in Elkader, IA and farmed most of his life in the area around Garnavillo. He retired from farming and moved into Garnavillo in 1978. His retirement years were occupied with his favorite activities--wood-working and fishing.
