Elmer John Henry was born the son of William Sr. and Amanda (Steeman) Henry on August 30, 1926 on the family farm near Elkader. He passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader following a long illness.
Elmer received his education from the local country school. He served in the United States Army from January 1946 till July 1947, where he was honorably discharged. Elmer then spent many years farming in rural Garnavillo until his retirement. The last few years Elmer spent living at Scenic Acres in St. Olaf. In his free time, Elmer enjoyed fishing, playing cards and watching the New York Yankees.
Elmer will be greatly missed by his two nieces, Terry (Paul) Ertz of Garnavillo, Lois (Jeff) Matt of Shell Rock; several great nieces, nephews and several friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Arlene Bauer and one brother, William Henry Jr.
