Merlin Elmer Wagner was born the son of Matt and Alice (Schmitt) Wagner on June 27, 1928 in Rickardsville, Iowa. He passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Merlin grew up in the Dubuque area and worked for John Deer for many years. He Served in the Navy during World War II from 1945 through 1946. He is survived by three daughters, Kari Wagner of East Dubuque, Ill. Connie Schnee of Ohio and Sheryl (Daniel) Freit of West Salem, Wis.; four sons, Gary (Sandy) Wagner of Dallas, Texas, Rick (Judy) Wagner of Dubuque, Daniel Wagner and James (Juliann) Wagner of Dubuque, IA; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two sisters; Betty (Duane) Hingtgen of Dubuque and Donna of Galena IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Melvin Wagner.
